Labor Pains

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

They usually start slowly and increase in intensity and frequency as the event nears. The Bible talks about certain events drawing near. As the events of the last days draw near when Christ will return for His bride-the church, signs (labor pains) will accompany them.

"But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads because your redemption draws near." Luke 21:28 (emphasis mine)

Are we so busy living our lives and pursuing our dreams that we haven't noticed the labor pains increasing? All around us in this world, signs of Jesus' soon return are increasing in intensity and frequency. Immorality is increasing with boldness and no shame. Television and entertainment encourage us to do what makes us "happy" "follow our heart". Truth has become subjective. I have my truth and you have your truth. It doesn't matter to most what God's word tells us. Even many churches and TV preachers disregard what the Bible says for the opinion of mankind. This shouldn't surprise us. The Bible told us thousands of years ago that this would happen. "men will be lovers of themselves..." 2 Timothy 3:1-5

So, what should we do? We are just pilgrims here. We don't belong and thanks to God that we

don't! This is NOT our home. Jesus tells us to walk worthy of our calling. (Eph. 4:1, NKJV) To walk worthy of our calling involves a daily commitment to follow God's will and to seek Him consistently and obey Him according to what the Bible says.

This should be our highest priority. We, as Christians, belong to another kingdom. Jesus is our King! So, to walk worthy of our calling, it stands to reason that we seek to obey the Bible, God's instruction book to us. As we see the world changing around us, let's not forget to follow our King and His word. Let's not get caught up with the temporary pleasures this life offers to the detriment of the eternal. We are here to glorify God and to be His messengers to a world of people that need a savior from their sins. They are captive to sin and are lost. None of us knows how much time we have. It's of the greatest importance to tell them that there is a God who loves them, and who is willing to forgive them when they ask Him with a humble heart and to transform them into a new creation in Jesus Christ.
